A closer look at Hyper-V Settings

In last part of this series I talked about new’s in Hyper-V and I installed Hyper-V role. Let’s move forward and take a look at Hyper-V Settings.
To open the Hyper-V settings, we need to start the Hyper-V Manager tool and then click on Hyper-V Settings column on the right-hand side. Another way is to right-click on Hyper-V server and choose Hyper-V Settings.

The Hyper-V settings configuration window allows you to configure all the basic environmental settings for your Hyper-V server.

To change the virtual hard disk’s and the virtual machines default location, click on Virtual Hard Disks/ Virtual Machines. In my case it will be D:\VM

To manage and enable the Remote FX feature select Physical GPUs. The GPU is used primarily for computing 3D functions. This includes things such as lighting effects, object transformations, and 3D motion.
NUMA Spanning is enabled by default. It will provide VMs with additional computing resources. Using this setting may decrease overall performance.
Live migration settings allow you to enable or disable live migration functionality on the particular Hyper-V server. Under the Advanced Features we can specify authentication protocol and performance options. We will see how live migration work’s in my feature posts.

To change the maximum number of simultaneous storage migrations, click on Storage Migrations.
Enhanced Session Mode Policy – allows redirection of local drives and resources from computers running VM Connection. I will enable it.
Replication Configuration -This setting allows you to configure the Hyper-V virtual machine replication. By default replication is not enabled on the Hyper-V server. We can modify Hyper-V replication configuration by choose auth method and ports. It also gives us the flexibility to manually allow certain Hyper-V servers to send their replication stream to particular Hyper-V servers, or alternatively we can configure our Hyper-V server to receive replication stream from any Hyper-V server.
